Frequently Asked Questions

What is ConnectEd?

ConnectEd is an online teaching platform that connects students with qualified teachers for support, curriculum catch up and revision assistance.

What equipment do I need?

You will need a laptop or PC, at least 2MBps bandwidth, speakers or headphones and a microphone. ConnectEd is supported by all major web browsers.

How does ConnectEd work?

After you let us know your requirements, we will match you with a tutor at a time and date which suits you. Once you confirm, we will send you a link to the session which can be accessed at the agreed time.

Is ConnectEd safe?

We have strict safeguarding policies to ensure that ConnectEd is safe for all participants, including having a moderator present for all sessions. You can find out more about our safeguarding policies here.

What ages is ConnectEd suitable for?

ConnectEd is suitable for any student aged 8 and upwards.

How do I book a session?

Fill out the form on this page and we will be in touch shortly to connect you with a tutor at a time suitable for you.

Will the student be speaking to a real person?

Yes, they will! All our online lessons are held in real time with a live tutor that the student can hear and speak to. The student has the choice of whether they want to use the camera or just the audio or the instant messaging chat option.

How long does each session last?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. However, some sessions can be extended. If you would like more information regarding this, email us at

What time are sessions held at?

Our tutors are flexible! Sessions can be held at any time suitable for you and your child.

What subjects and levels does ConnectEd cover?

We offer a full curriculum from KS2 to KS5, functional skills, EAL and much more! You can find out more on this page. If there’s anything specific you would like our tutors to cover, get in touch here.

What qualifications do ConnectEd teachers have?

All of our UK based tutors are fully qualified to teach and have classroom teaching experience. We ensure all tutors have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and they are also all DBS checked as standard. We follow DfE safer recruitment guidance.

How do you ensure quality and high standards amongst your tutors?

We carefully monitor each teacher to ensure that students are receiving the highest quality instruction. New teachers are observed and evaluated and we request regular feedback from the students themselves.

How well do the tutors know the National Curriculum?

All ConnectEd teachers must have previous experience in teaching the National Curriculum and are further supported by our academic team who keep them up-to-date with the latest guidance.

How will the tutors know the student’s academic level?

Before we set up the first lesson, we will ask the parent or school to brief us on the student’s academic progress. The teacher will then carry out some unobtrusive assessments during the first sessions.  We can also offer a benchmarking assessment which will allow you to identify the gaps in the student’s learning before the start of the sessions.

Is the teaching based on the student’s needs?

At ConnectEd all learning is student-centred. In order for a learner to make progress it is imperative that the lessons are built around the individual’s needs.

How often will students have tutoring sessions?

This is completely up to you and your child. We would advise that we really need to teach a student on at least a weekly basis in order to make a difference.

Do ConnectEd tutors give homework?

This is up to you.  If you would like our teachers to set homework then please let them or us know.

What are the advantages of online tuition over face to face tuition?

We believe there are many! Online tutoring offers access to a wide pool of qualified teachers and the convenience of being tutored from home at a time that suits you. It also builds student confidence in using technology as a learning method.

What happens if a tutor cancels a session?

The lesson will still run with a cover tutor if you are happy for this to happen.  As our teachers complete lesson plans and progress reports for each lesson, we’re able to ensure your child doesn’t miss out.

Can I request the same tutor again?

Are sessions recorded? Can they be rewatched?

All sessions are recorded and are available to watch for up to 14 days.

How can I track my child’s progress?

You will be sent monthly reports, written by your child’s tutor highlighting the progress that they have made.

What times are tutoring sessions?

Tutoring sessions are fully flexible according to your availability.

Do you provide support for pupils outside the United Kingdom?

Absolutely! As ConnectEd is an online platform we can support pupils internationally with all of the same tutoring options that we offer in the UK.
